Sant Jordi – Explore the Traditional Part of Ibiza

As most of you know by now, Ibiza is more than fancy clubs and never-ending parties; Ibiza also holds a great deal of history and traditionalism within its shores, and a wonderful example of that is Sant Jordi. The traditional village located in the southern part of the island is a beautiful jewel Ibiza has to offer its tourists. Why not explore it during your visit here?

Brief Sant Jordi History

The village’s church was used in the old times to protect the locals’ valuables from the danger of pirates. No wonder they wished to get their hands on the goodies! Even in present times locals have great crafting skills. The church in Sant Jordi was also the best preserved of its kind on the island of Ibiza. Nowadays, the village center revolves around it; here you can find a great deal of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops to have a pit stop. The prices here are great, and the food is even better!

Sant Jordi Flea Market

The weekly flea market in Sant Jordi is also one of the delights you cannot let escape you. Located in the old hippodrome, the market is filled with hand-made items, local food, and all sorts of goods wanting to find a new owner. It is best you go there early in the morning if you want to find the best bargains! Also, if you’ve skipped your morning coffee, there are several bars around that can serve you one.

The Festival of Sant Jordi

The most important event of the year here in Sant Jordi is its annual festival. It starts in April and ends mid-May and the activities are fun and engaging. The greatest celebration takes place on the 23rd of April. Then they honor Saint George, the patron of the village. There is also a procession, as well as live music and street food everybody enjoys. Be sure to have a bunch of red roses with you if you go; women receive them as a symbol and reminder of the slaying of the dragon by Saint George himself.

There is definitely more to Sant Jordi than this, and we invite you all to further discover its hidden beauty.
